Guest post from Sharon Bouffard. Today is Sunday. We’ll be leaving for church soon. That’s what we always do and have done for many years. BUT WHY?
Is it out of habit? Is it because that’s what we’re supposed to do? Or is it because of our love for God, to be able to worship Him, to praise Him through music, corporate prayer, the speaking of God’s Holy Word. I have missed many Sundays since last January due to health issues and my heart ached and cried with the longing to be with God’s people to share in that worship. Is our church perfect?
Of course not!
We’re all sinners walking through this troubled world. Are our pastors and leaders perfect? Of course not! They’re walking the same path. They deal with life’s difficulties as we do. They hurt , too. And they deal with the problems and grumblings of their flock. Are our dear people perfect? Of course not! I know, because I’m one of those people who, at times, grumble, complain and judge others. What a poor example to the world. And yet, God loves me/us and forgives me/us. No, the church is not perfect and it doesn’t look very much like the early church described in the Scriptures. But – it’s where God wants us. He created us to worship Him, not just alone, but with others.
So – as you attend your church today, don’t look at the faults of the pastors, the leaders, the church family. PRAY for them all because Satan is constantly trying to destroy the church and wants us to keep our eyes off Jesus! Love God. Love one another. And pray for your church, your leaders, and your fellow worshippers. We’re all in this together and our ultimate purpose is to glorify God.
Matthew 5:14 and 15. ” You are the light of the world – like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all to see.”
