Pray for your Daughter! 12 Things to Pray

Do you pray for your daughter?  I know that you do!  Ever since you first saw her little face and hushed her first cries, I know that you have been praying for her. “Oh, God, keep my little angel safe!” You whispered, “God loves you and so does Mommy.” Railroad tracks: Keeping our prayers on track for our daughters

Our prayers change over the years, but here are 12 things you can pray for for your daughter.

  • Pray for her to have a tender heart toward God.
  • Pray for her to stay safe.
  • Pray for her to stay healthy, even though you realize that good health may not be God’s plan.
  • Pray for her to be wise.
  • Pray for her to have good friends.
  • Pray for her to have an obedient heart.
  • Pray for your daughter to be emotionally stable.
  • Pray for your daughter to have a thankful heart.
  • Pray for your daughter to be humble.
  • Pray for her to keep herself pure morally.
  • Pray for your daughter to want God’s will for her life.
  • Pray for her future husband, that he will be raised to glorify God as well.

Pray for her to have a tender heart toward God.  If my daughter has a tender heart towards God, He will convict her of sin, and she will respond quickly to His conviction.  It will save you a lot of nagging and worry!

Pray for her to stay safe!

Pray for her to stay safe and us as moms to be alert to possible dangers.  Our initial jobs as mothers involve keeping our children safe.  Are they snug in their blankets but still able to breathe?  Are they able to nurse/ eat without choking?  Are they gaining weight like they should?

Those specific situations will change as your daughter grows (Ask a mom with a 16-year-old learning to drive!) but we still want our children to stay safe. (Yes, I have had to call the Poison Control help line more than once.  Those air fresheners that look like mushrooms?  They should not be licked!)

Pray for her to stay healthy, even though you realize that good health may not be God’s plan. I am wording this like this specifically because of my friends who have high-maintenance, special needs children.  Their children do not have the same level of health as other children, but they still pray for their children to be healthy within God’s plan for their lives.

How wonderful to have God’s watch care over our daughters as they go through life. And life does come with events like ear infections, croup, allergies, bee stings and asthma attacks. We need God’s help!

Pray for her to be wise.  Proverbs 4:7  “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; and with all they getting get understanding.” A wise person looks for wise counsel from others, thinks before she speaks, and is able to apply God’s truth to her life.

Pray for her to have good friends.  How wonderful it is to have  good friends—good friends that help you keep doing what is right, encouraging friends that come along side you to help you keep going when life is tough, friends that cheer you.

Good friends are good for you, and they will be good for your daughter as well.    Proverbs 13:20  “He that walketh with wise men will be wise, but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”

Pray for your daughter to have an obedient heart.  We have to repeatedly teach, teach, teach.  But oh, how wonderful it is when, after years and years of training, our children obey us and obey God:  without excuse, without delay and without hesitation.

Pray for your daughter to be emotionally stable.

Yes, we may not always feel good, but in our house,  hormones were not an excuse to be mean, irritable, cantankerous, angry, crabby, cross, miserable or moping to anyone.  Our girls were not be be like our hedgehog, Thistle.

Girl holding hedgehog. Pray for your daughter not to be prickly.

Pray for your daughter to have a thankful heart.  Acknowledging the goodness of God, the kindness of parents,  and the sacrifice of others is so important.  It will keep your daughter from being a mean, selfish person.

Pray for your daughter to be humble.  A person who will humble themselves to receive instruction is teachable.  Who wouldn’t want a daughter like that?

Pray for her to keep herself pure morally.  The whole world and its marketing system is out to persuade your daughter that her purity doesn’t matter and it is no big deal.  It will take all your teaching and training and God’s intervention to persuade her otherwise and for her to keep herself pure.

1 Corintihians 6: 19, 20:  “What?  Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  Ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Pray for your daughter to want God’s will for her life.  If she wants that, she will do well, for God is not going to hide His will from those who are seeking Him.

Pray for her future husband, that he will be raised to glorify God as well.  It was so special to us when we met my daughter’s fiancé know that we had been upholding him and his family in prayer for years.  I had such a feeling of peace and answered prayer when we met him.  (Love you, A.C.I.!)

I am recommending Ruth Bumgardner’s Prayer Notebook system.  She has a very organized way to help you pray regularly and Scripturally for your family.  You can contact her at ruthieb48@gmail.com.
